MiLB continues to surprise us in 2026 with new commemorative balls!

In addition to the Richmond Flying Squirrels issuing two new special game balls to open the season, available on the MiLB.com website right now are two more, one a gamer and one purely celebratory.

First, the Worcester Red Sox discovered commemorative balls that had been commissioned for the Pawtucket team store for the 2020 season, before the franchise moved. Since this site’s focus is on game balls we won’t be featuring this one in the Museum, as I’m told by a couple of sources that these were not intended for game use. But if you’re interested they are now available for sale at MiLB.com, but they ain’t cheap!

The second is an actual gamer produced for the Springfield Cardinals, member of the Double-A Texas League. The team is rebranding for the 2027 season and played its final 3-game homestand as the Cardinals with a commemorative gamer that you can also find on the MiLB website. They’re selling game-used versions as well as unused balls.

These do instill in me a Spring Training-esque hope for more MiLB commemorative game balls for next season and into the future. We are especially eager for the return of unique All-Star Game balls!
