The Florida State League is one of the oldest minor leagues in the country. Founded in 1919, the league suspended play between 1928 and 1936, again during WWII, from 1942 through 1945, and once more due to the pandemic-related cancellation of the 2020 MiLB season. In 2021 the league was replaced by the Low-A Southeast as part of MLB’s reorganization of minor league baseball, before being renamed back to the FSL for 2022.
