This Class D league was founded in 1936, changed its name to the Alabama State League in 1940 (as it no longer had teams in Florida) and then switched the name back in 1951. It was one of the few leagues to survive the 1950s, only to fold after the 1962 season.

Right now this is the only baseball on this site that is not part of my personal collection. This ball dates precisely to 1940 based on the league name and President Charles Laney’s tenure. Many thanks to Corey Hovanec for the photos!
